Since Splunk has an 18% skill weightage in this job, it would be beneficial to have at least a basic understanding of Splunk.

What You Can Say in the Interview

  • If asked about Splunk directly: "I have extensive experience with Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and observability. While I haven't used Splunk extensively, I understand its architecture, log indexing, and query language (SPL). Given my background, I can quickly adapt to Splunk if required."

  • If asked how you would monitor logs with Splunk: "Splunk collects logs via Universal Forwarders or API-based ingestion, indexes them, and provides search and visualization via SPL. While my primary expertise is in Prometheus and Grafana, I am confident I can quickly onboard Splunk as needed."

Should You Prepare for Splunk?

  • If this is a high-priority job, spend 1-2 days learning the basics of Splunk:

    • How logs are ingested (Universal Forwarder, syslog, API, etc.)

    • Basic SPL queries (searching logs, filtering data)

    • Dashboards and alerts

    • Comparison with Prometheus & Grafana

Would you like a quick learning roadmap or some Splunk cheat sheets? 🚀
